Nowadays, our cellphones are considered a necessity. Many would agree, especially millennials, that the gadget plays a major role in our modern lives. Aside from its main purpose, which is to serve as a means of communication, modern smartphones have various applications and functions. That’s why users tend to spend more time on their phones. However, despite its benefits to everyone, various studies and research have determined that too much irresponsible use of cellphones has dangerous effects on human health. It is because cellphone emits electromagnetic radiation – which may lead to cancer.
In fact, many studies claim that too much exposure to cellphone causes cancer. According to the World Health Organization, they believe that radiation is “possibly carcinogenic to humans”. Also, based on meta-analysis that was conducted by the Journal of Clinical Oncology in 2009, they concluded that mobile phone causes risks of a tumor.
According to a report by CBS News, Dr. Devra Davis wrote “Disconnect: The Truth about Cell Phone Radiation, What the Industry Is Doing to Hide It, and How to Protect Your Family” – as a means to raise awareness to mobile phone users about the possible risk of phone radiation.
Dr. Davis enumerated 8 ‘common mistakes’ that users have been doing for ages, unaware that it only boosts their exposure to radiation. Given that activated phones emit radiation, she said that carrying and sleeping with your phone close to your body is a bad idea.
She also advises parents not to encourage cellphone use among children, due to the fact that a child’s head is thinner and not yet fully developed.
Aside from that, she also claims that stronger phone signals mean a stronger amount of radiation. The doctor advises people to use the speaker option on the phone, a headset or use a landline phone.
Furthermore, she also recommends not to keep the keypad turned away because she claims the radiation is being emitted by the back of the phone. She then suggests texting more than calling, because according to her, the longer you use your phone during a conference call and forgetting to switch sides, the longer is your exposure to radiation.
Nevertheless, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, contradicts claims about the negative side effects of phone radiation, as for them, “there is no scientific evidence that provides a definite answer to the question”. So, you can relax for the moment about this cancer scare.
